Thanks, Michael. Yes, it was quite a close encounter - at the Rhino and Lion Park... direction Cradle of Humankind... I am sure you know exactly where it is. Many thanks. jnconradie

Fantastic picture Nico, even at 500mm this guy was pretty close! Where did you shoot this lion (pun intended)? A very handsome fella!

Dearest Nico....Because this is out of our normal everyday experience, it is difficult to know what something like this actually looks like. To me, the initial blood smears looked almost like red paint...which may indeed be what the snout of a lion mid-meal really looks like. Damned if I know...this seems a bit better to me.

Also, for whatever reasons, not many people seem to be making substantive comments under various pictures. I hope that no one thinks that I'm medelling or anything...I am just giving one person's opinion...nothing more.

Best Wishes, Traveller

Thanks, everyone, for the kind feedback.

:-) Rather than going back, getting 'Simba' to first use a napkin after lunch, getting him to kindly pose again, etc. :-) I opted to selectively desat the reds around his mouth. :-)

It was taken minutes after messy meal, so it is pretty much "what you see is what the camera saw".

Wonderful shot, Nico...something that most of us can only dream about capturing. I have to agree, however, that the red is just too fluorescent looking.

How the beast merges with the surrounding is marvelous. Sam Attal

I knew that this was your's Nico...not many of us have Lions eating in our back yard. Is this how you shot it? The blood, and most especially the single spot of blood on the nose seems....too red. Even if this is how you shot it, I'd take that single spot down a notch in intensity, or even remove it.

Just a suggestion to make a great image perfect...IMHO.

Best Wishes, Traveller
