Great portraiture here!! I like the hint of a smile on one of the faces while the other not having that.

Nico, I don't mind at all and thanks for trying. As I said, I originally processed my two takes of these girls with the noise, and I personally preferred the noisy version of both, see V.3 I posted of the other one, but finally opted to clean the pictures because I thought maybe it would be more appropriate for this challenge of shadow & light. I am actually very pleased that you feel the noise should not have been taken out as you confirm my first instict to leave it in. My only problem with the noisier version of this picture is to sharpen the girls faces without accentuating the existing noise. Will work on it see how it comes out. Thanks Nico for the interest I appreciate it very much. Judi
Hi JudiB. I downloaded your posted version and "messed" with it for a while, just to explore some grainy alternatives. I posted two of those in Pending. You can have a peek in case you wish - and then simply delete them. To be honest, I do not think either improved on your original.
(Perhaps one of the other wise challengers can give their ideas and comments as to how best to deal with the iso1600 after-effects?)
I trust you won't mind me playing with your pic a bit. I like the shot a lot, and that is probably why it interests me so much. You are the owner and artist and creator, though, so the final decision is yours as to how to wish to have the photograph to look like. Best regards jnconradie
Yes Nico it was extremely dark very little lighting. Actually the original version converted from raw was processed with a lot of grain and I removed the noise
seeing as how usually the photos here are squeeky clean. I will put it up instead of the V.2 and see what you and others think. Thanks for the input. Judi
The EXIF data ( iso1600 and 1/10s) seems to tell a story of a photograph taken when it was really, really dark. Firstly then, JudiB, congrats on getting it done at all under those circumstances - with available light only. I like this version better than the other, and I do like the toning.
This is only a question: I wondered whether one should not have added some additional grain, given that the iso1600 would be introducing some degree of noise in any event, so that it looks even more like an "old" photograph of modern people?
