Magnificant work Michael, I can appreciate the work in getting the subtle shadows etc. just right. Great concept and excellent photography.

I really like the clouds ..they have character. The little triangular light on his right leg draws my attention... am I alone with this thought or could it be made a little less conspicuous?

I thought I'd seen a third and fourth version of cover art...but I can't find them now.
(and I never liked Mikey Cohen anyway...hee, hee, hee)

Lonnit, it is a pose of swooning eroticism...from the thumbnail I could not tell the gender of the model...and tack on the faintest of breasts, I still couldn't.

Michael, I googled the various playbill covers, and the one from 1994 is....starkly plain. The HBO art seems almost too busy to me....but this works in its simplicity as well thematically.

Micheal, you made this as a self portrait, didn't you? After all, isn't MICHEAL an angel in the bible, and what he's lying on is a PUFF of cloud? Great idea!

Awesome imagery Michael. How'd you get the arm shadow on the clouds? Spectacular!

Dear Michael, what can one add to the multitude of comments and compliments already posted in numerous Challenges where you have shared with us these extra-ordinary "visions".

I think you - more than perhaps any other photographer who has influenced and taught me stuff - you made me realise that it is often about "seeing" the end-product in one's mind's eye - and then having the courage and the know-how to make that vision a reality.

I always have this perception of Mr Puff sitting in his study (or wherever his muse happens to speak to him!) and seeing in his mind this whole scene, in detail, shadow on clouds included. And then he combines excellent photography, post-processing skills, sotware wizardry, etc. etc. to realise that picture in the medium of a digital "painting". If you were an oil painter (and who knows, you might be one as well!) the end result might have looked similar, perhaps just as an oil-painting.

May be it does not quite work like that in real life - but that is the perception I have! :-)

Thanks very much for sharing another of your "visions" with us. It continues to inspire and set benchmarks.

Regards jnconradie

Thanks Traveller and Lonnit. Traveller, I'm delighted you are familiar with the play because I really wanted to create an image which both fit the title and the context of the literature. Lonnit, I don't know if you are familiar with the play but I'm pleased that the image has a gay context for you...it should, I wasn't doing my job if it didn't. The play is set in the early 1980's during the onset of the AIDS epidemic and explores a number of gay themes and interpersonal relationships. "Angels in America" is actually made up of two plays. I was very fortunate to see the world premiere of Millenium Approaches (the first of the two plays) in San Francisco in the early 1990s. It's an extraordinary work and both plays won Tony Awards for Best Play when they were performed on Broadway. Oh, and it took me about twenty attempts on that arm shadow, I'm beaming that it worked for you. -Michael

It's a lovely image, although quite a feminine pose. OTOH, these types of images always have a gay feel to them, so....

BTW, nice touch with the shadow of the arm on the cloud. :) Your work is always interesting. :) ~ Lonnit

Hummmmm...I said to myself when I saw this thumbnail...who could have done this?...lol

It is a good thing that an element was shot outside the Challenge period...or you'd win another one of these suckers (smile/grin).

This does seem perfect for the play....(sell this puppy...lol), and I actually can't find any divergence between what is here and what you wanted to accomplish.

Best wishes,

Traveller
