A masterpiece that definately belongs on the "art challenge" ;-) but that couch makes it fitting for a furniture challenge. How did you manage to find a couch with a missing front "leg" and still get the back counch cushion to be level across? Your mastery never ceases to amaze me, traveller! Nice entry. Markjay

Great Traveller, I've been busy reading comments and watching this develop and forgetting to actually comment lol! I like the house (person...) looking on. The textures you have chosen work really well with this composition. The smudge tool can be a life saver at times but as you say... there is no easy way... it is a little tedious mostly. I like the angle you shot this from... it seems to invite you to come and sit down. Good stuff Traveller, but you can stop now... you are getting too good! ~ Regards Melbob

Well, maybe it's not the monitor...I've worked it yet again....I think the problem is that I am an idea person...I love ideas....but equally I am a lazy person...and just don't like doing the actual follow threw, the actual work. Thanks for the kick in the pants. Traveller

Thanks Michael and Sharon....since I'm usually fighting for sharpness, the blur tool is not a regular part of my kit...but it is pretty easy to use. I like it! I hope that this is better...I sense that a little of this may be because you are both working from a large flat panel monitor and I am still with a CRT...you may see more than I with a higher resolution. This is like flying blind...taking directions from ground control while you are in a heavy fog...lol (Yes, I do have a pile of money sitting around...why don't I buy a flat panel? I am notoriously cheap, true...but, that's not it either...I just don't like flat panels yet...everybody disagrees with me....I know). Thanks again, (is it at least marginally better?....lol) Traveller

Thanks CJ, I re worked the The Street Couch just now a lot with a 5 pixel smuge tool to take out the jaggies...and some healing brush. Melbob taught me to work with a very small smudge tool, and Elena says there is no easy way. It just takes time. Darn right, Traveller, you should indeed have circled the block as many times as necessary to get this shot. No effort is too extraordinary to get "the shot" as long as life and limb are not risked. Now that I've got that off my chest, I can say this is a great shot, IMHO. I like the simplicity the angle of view affords. I also like your post processing, although I think you could blur just the front of the cushions for a slightly softer effect which I think would be in keeping with overstuffed furniture. The effect of natural light truly lovely. -Michael

I agree with you Jim, the couch is the subject in this image. I would also add that the painterly approach is not appropriate for all images...or even many. But believe me, this is one beat up couch, and it does not work as a straight photograph. However, in my mind's eye even as I was shooting this...I saw it as a Hockney and knew what I would do with it when D/L'ed and knew that it would be reasonably effective. I was going to put a very, very pretty duck's head in the right hand corner...lol...I am glad now that I didn't. But hey, this is furniture, isn't it? When I saw it abandoned, I drove around the block to give it another look...and then drove around again because I couldn't find a place to park...lol. But for Michael, no difficulty is too great to overcome to give him what he wants. Best Wishes, Traveller

I can't decide which I prefer. I like the viewpoint for this one the best, and the subtle lighting and lack of distractions emphasizes the couch. I like how it looms large and dominates the scene here - a formidable addition to the yard. It's a tough choice! Jim H.
