This is one of those "scenes" that only an artist with a trained / good eye would take notice of. I love the shadows and the shapes the shadows create across the furniture and as another commenter took notice of, I love the way the purple and red play against one another. I also think the white chair on the right and the small table on the left of the chair kind of counter balance one another... great shot! Markjay

I think that is a good point Michael.... 'rich shadows' go with BH's! otherwise an evenly exposed image can be quite uninteresting.

The colours work with this capture although I could not imagine painting walls red and using these colours for the furniture.

This image tells a story, good one Shu. ~ Regards Melbob

The colors really work for me. Like Mary Anne and Jim, I'm good with the highlights because they are so well counterpointed by rich shadows. -Michael

Aw heck. Blown highlights - no problem. Sometimes you just have to decide which end of the range you want to capture and present. The shadows make up for the highlights if you ask me.

I think people overestimate the ability of the human eye to actually cover a huge dynamic range. I think it's a perceptual trick, really. I figure that our eyes adjust their apertures and perform exposure bracketing all of the time as we scan over a scene and then our brain reassembles the data to make an HDR "virtual" image that we *think* we're seeing. But in fact, I doubt that the eye is capable of the DR that people give it credit for. How would it really do if faced with an instant snapshot? A lot worse than most people think, I'll bet.

So what I'm saying is that a shot like this, to me, is not bothersome because it is what I'd really see if I was there but was concentrating on a shadow area at that instant.

I like the way the purple plays against the red in this and then all of the subtleties in the brown shadows and also highlights play against each other too. Jim H.

Shu, I'm not bothered by the BHs, as I think they make it look almost like a painting. All you need to do is apply the dry brush filter. But don't ask me what art style it would be. ;-)
