Thanks jnconradie and Melbob. I captured this expression on my grandson's face after he dropped his snack. No coercing or bribing was required! I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
Traveller, it may be best that I do not reveal my name just in case viewers don't buy my explanation for the expression and I get blamed for child cruelty. LOL!
Regarding the effect, I used gaussian blur with a levels adjustment of the middle and right values to lighten and a layer blend of lighten. I then used a black brush with low opacity on a layer mask to highlight the desired features of the original picture.

Though you have not reveled yourself...I'd like to say again that this is among the best images in this Challenge....you should campaign a little so this puppy might win it all. I intend to vote for it. Best Wishes, Traveller

Concerned???.... looks like you have taken the poor little man's allowance away for the rest of his life.... and made him wash dishes instead!... he is downright miserable?

Poor little fellow!

Lovely portrait though!

Now... who could his CRUEL parents be??? ...Um...? But then.... he could be a great actor in the making?... yep.. I think I'll go with that explanation! ~ Melbob

Have we seen this young model in the Challenges before? Somehow that hair colour rings serious bells... but it might be old age doing the bell-ringing as well. I can hardly imagine a more serious (concerned!) expression! What did you ask him to do or think of to get that? Or did it come naturally. Compliments to model and photographer. Regards jnconradie

I am very impressed with the emotional tone of this image, the eyes, the furrowed brow...but the lower lip seems a little chapped to me or something...maybe you could smooth it out a little, make it look more natural?

Generally, I'm pretty laid back on requested changes to an image...it is the Artist's work after all...but this is soooooo close to being....supurlative...please think about it.

And other people's views on this? Please comment.

Best Wishes, Traveller
