This is a sieve for straining soups and such. Actually, I've been informed that this is called a "China Cap Strainer". It's sort of a conical shaped item with a stand and a wooden device for mashing food through it if you wish.

Well this looks very much like something I was messing about with yesterday which was the screen in the glass of a microwave oven. The photograph is almost identical........but I suppose it could be something else? :)
