It's an aloe leaf. You're seeing about 5 inches of the leaf I think. It's not Aloe vera, but either A. marlothii or A. ferox I think. I don't trust the online resources on this ID. -- Victor

OK, since you didn't bite on the olive thing, I'll assume that's wrong. LOL It looks like a plant submerging from the snow/ice. Don't think crocus have a red stem though... -- Jeannie
