Ahhh! It was a tough one! very nicely done Amy! I knew it was a macro, but I got the subject all wrong! :( -Cat

Revealed:

It's a "hanger" (for lack of what else to call it) from a lantern... shot as a macro with the 50mm f/1.4 and 3 extension tubes.

Looks like a 'beaten copper' (or tin plate...) sheathed plaque of some kind and I also think rotated 180 so that it is supported by the 'eye' shaft/chain hanger?... maybe earthen-ware pot etc?... but then it could be Ned Kelly's armour?... umm .. but I don't think he ventured that far off-shore?... No one is yet right, but Kiki, you are right about it being rotated --- signed: the unknown photographer

Hmm... the dust threads indicate an object at around full scale I'd say.. terracotta or cast metal? The reinforcment on the "ear" is a little puzzling.. very rough job, but I thought perhaps it was a flower-pot or jar, hanging in some wooden chains? And I think the images is somewhat rotated, perhaps 180 degrees..
