Thanks shu. Mary Anne, thanks for the clarification...I see what you mean. I saved a version with all the adjustment layers and masks. I'll take a look and see if it's an artifact of a particular layer (might take me a day or two since I'm gonna go shoot for Eligible, LOL!). -Michael

Wow...I'm even more impressed after seeing the original RAW conversion. The "artifacts" I referred to (maybe not the right term) are the slightly lighter outlines above the snow-covered branches in the middle of the image. Maybe it's the result of feathering as you made different adjustments to different parts of the photo. No big deal...I guess I was just trying to figure out how you got the wonderful look in this image.

Beautiful image and your selection of white balance is perfect. (I would think the park would want this one to use as advertisement.) The color is phenomenal and composition outstanding. shu

Thanks CJ, Nico, Mary Anne. Nope, it's not a composite. It was taken on the road between Tunnel View and Bridalveil Falls. I was on the deep shade side of the valley while El Capitan is on the sunny side of the valley. I think the camera set the white balance based on El Capitan, hence the deep blue color of the shade I was in. I could correct the white balance, but I rather liked the effect since it visually describes that I was freezing. I'm not sure what artifacts you see since I don't see any, but monitors are different. You can see a flat raw conversion before post processing at http://www.pbase.com/mtpuff/image/75448738 . -Michael

Beautiful shot, Michael. I especially like the wonderful sharpness you've managed to capture throughout the entire field. In fact, I'm wondering if this is a composite, as I see some artifacts along the top edge of the foreground where it meets the mountain.

Beautiful Michael! I'm anxious to make a trip to Yosemite after seeing your terrific pictures here. Love the cold blue look of the snow and wonderful framing of the famous landmark. CJ
