Thanks for the comment, PK. Very interesting link. It seems that there is a "Save the Burros" movement I wasn't aware of. Warm fuzzies, -mikey

Quite funny...Love the bright red...
Benetton's photographer, Oliviero Toscani, elected the fast-disappearing Portuguese donkeys ("Burros") as one of his recent photo projects. I am quite curious to see the resulting exhibition...

Trav - Thanks to your sister for the support ":^) ... In defense of donkeys (AKA burros) as workers: They can carry more per pound than any other beast of burden used in this country. If you can get the donkey to work, that is. That's why they're crossed with horses to get mules. Mules then become the most willing, most capable pack/work animals. I understand that city folk wouldn't know this, but draft horses and donkeys are frequently crossed to produce, arguably THE best draft horses for plowing, etc. The donkeys in this pic are used at the Colorado Mining Museum in Monument, CO, in the summer season to demonstrate (and actually do) the packing that prospectors did in the 'ole days when they were the favorite animal used by the 19th Century gold digging prospectors. Warm fuzzies, -mikey

Dear Michael:

And my sister called to say that she really liked Judi's Tower, strongly and (llike everyone) she preferred the second, under the fold, image of Red Exit.

She also liked Horse Power...though I suggested that I wasn't sure how ot it was...lol...but she defended those donkeys with verve....lol

Best Wishes, Traveller

Thanks for the comments, Guys. I was lucky to find this freshly painted barn with these two nicely contrasted and sunning themselves on the warm side (temperature was 28F & blowing). You can see a bit of snow on the ground in front of them. On the other side of the barn there was a 7' snow drift.

Bob - Good eye! I hadn't noticed those dabs, but it makes sense. I did notice the brightness of it, but not the dabs ":^) This is the 'standard', at least around here, red barn with white trim. They probably don't last as long here as they do there; being we're closer to the sun and all (7,500' altitude).

Alex - Not to argue, but even at this reduced size, I can see the chin hairs very clearly on the fellow on the right. What makes you think it's out of focus?

Cheers, -mikey

Great Mikey.... I like the Donkey/Mule/Horse/little 4 legged people with long ears... 'whatever'... personality... I can tell the one on the right is a little more 'aloof' but they must be reasonably obedient to pose for this pic?
Did you just paint this barn especially for this pic? (tell tale splatters on the concrete foundation ..LOL... the sun down here would fade that to a dull pink in a week or two!) ~ Regards Melbob
