Don't bother getting the DVD (or is it CD) set, though. It's just a terrible set of HIGHLY compressed JPG images of the magazines. The compression is so bad it's very difficult to read the articles. My brother bought a set for my dad. He thought he was going to be able to search the contents of articles. Not even close. -- Victor

I really like this shot, J!! Great idea and well executed. If you shoot this again some time, take a shot of the mags from an even closer point of view looking from left to right and see how much you can use DOF to make it pleasing. I really like this version just the way it is and it may even be fun to focus in on a particular year / subject?
Thanks for sharing this and hope you don't mind my "throwing out" some ideas? Best regards, Markjay

Very nice perspective compression and use of DOF

Tight, with an excellent use of DOF...it works perfectly.
The color combination and typeface also adds a lot to the photo but that, of course, is the work of NGS graphic designers...:);)

Thanks for the comments.

Mary Anne, I think if it was not for the fact that our two sons still sometimes use these as source material for school projects, I might indeed have done as Olaf did... sold the collection to a second-hand bookstore. I am 100% sure I will personally never read them again!

What a great thought... giving a subscription as gift to one's children! I like that Pops, and will make a mental note. By the time mine are older, it will probably a subscription to some digitally downloadable / ipod compatible version, or something! :-)

Lonnit, I am having a slow morning, so please forgive that I did not follow the "red one" question...?

Bruce, thanks for the confirmation that this OK. What was the "net" you mentioned? (As I said, my brain cells are probably not yet quite awake, so please forgive if the question is astoundingly stupid.)

Regards ~jnconradie

I've been getting NG since June 1965. That would be something like almost 500 issues. I used to save them but when I realized the NG was trying to sink the world in back issues of their magazine I started tossing them after I read them.

All four of my kids got a lifetime subscription to NG when they graduated from college. That's a gift they'll continue to get long after I'm gone.

Great picture, Nico, and nice bokeh!

We actually got money out of ours. Took them to a used books store some years ago.

So you save them, too? My National Geographics are beginning to be an albatross around my neck...I'll probably never read them again, but they're too nice to throw out. I've tried giving them to schools and libraries to no avail. Any ideas?
