This is actually an empty ink jet cartridge. It's an HP 51649A that I found laying around. It seems to have some magenta, but no yellow :) The little openings are the ink jet nozzles for the thing. It was just luck that it decided to ooze out a bit of the magenta. I was blasting the dust off of it with some canned air and it forced that ink to come out.

Speaking of chips blowing, where I used to work we used to tell people that all ICs operated on smoke and that if you ever let the smoke out, they'd stop working right. And we let the smoke out of quite a few. Usually by installing them backwards! That happens more than one might imagine when boards are hand assembled.

Sometimes they just die silently, other times they smoke, and on occasion they explode like a firecracker.

I've seen chips 'blow their mind' before but never saw one bleed. There obviously isn't much left inside after that catastrophe?
Clever post and great comp. ~ Regards Bob

What in the world, Jim?! Looks like an abstract artists impression of a computer chip? I'd love to know more... Regards ~jnconradie
