This is a nautilus shell. If you google on nautilus, you will be interested to find out that it comes, I think, from a member of the octopus family and that it is strongly linked to the mathematical theory of Fibinacci and the golden rule.

This is such a beautiful shot, Julie! I love how the grain in the wood echoes the shell a bit. A good choice for "empty"! ~Sharon
