Wonderful empty feel to this Mikey. Interesting subject, nice color contrasts and you did a great job with the range of light here. CJ

I sure we had some of that here in Texas. Snow, that is. Beautiful scene.

Thanks for the comments, Mary Anne & Bob.
Mary Anne - I have to agree, it is a loss. I cloned out a grader on the hill and a big ugly 3-story being built just behind the barn, just cuz. I'm afraid there's not much to do against "progress", except grin and bear it. The raise in interest rates has slowed them a bit, thankfully. As for preserving old items like this one in our part of the country, the Rocky Mountains to the West are doing that, pretty well. Not much development going on up there. It costs them too much to build in the "rocks".
Bob - I love this old place, too. The "Keep Out" signs were added recently when the development behind it started up. Yah, it is dried grass in front of the barn. The wind has whipped around and blown the snow away there, while the barn caused a low-pressure area in front and to the right, causing the snow to drop (drift). If there's one thing to remember about snow, I guess "don't eat the yellow" is a good one, ":^D
Cheers, -mikey

I like this Mikey, it tells a story and I keep coming back to reflect on just how it would have been years ago... full of life and activity!

We don't get snow where I live except up in the mountains during winter so I love snow scenes. I was warned about that 'yellow snow'... don't eat it???? but then I gues it is just the grass showing through ...hey?
Regards.. Bob

"Rural suburbia"...what a loss. I hope that at least a few areas out there are being preserved to save some of the history and natural beauty that make your part of the country special. We will all be somehow poorer when scenes like this no longer exist.

Thanks for the comments, guys. Trav: I know exactly what you mean about the signs. If this wasn't an "Empty" Challenge, I'd have cloned those out in a heartbeat. I must admit, tho, its pretty obvious that the barn is empty ":^) Nico: That is indeed a defunct wind-pumped livestock waterer. You can just barely see the mostly buried tank just to the right of the tower. The vanes, and everything else useful, have probably been scavenged for use elsewhere. Almost all of the local agricultural property has been sold, as this has, to developers. This barn is doomed to be replaced by $500K, 35 acre, three story "ranchettes". I call it rural suburbia. Cheers, -mikey

Wonderful! I cannot help smiling about the "wind mill" / "wind pump" (if I am correctly identifying the structure on the right) that even seems to be devoid of its vanes! Well captured. Regards ~jnconradie

Michael: I know what you are doing and I quite like the image...and yet, maybe it would be a better image if the glaring Keep Out signs were cloned away? I reaize that this runs contrary to your purpose in this shot...but...just a thought for you. Best Wishes, Traveller
