I agree it would be an interesting image with a more gentle light poking through, however this still comes across to me as a great observation in pattern repetition, and it's well composed. I'm a details-peeper so also found the 'toilets' sign amusing... I figure for digs like this, with classic old architecture and well kept grounds, they could've at least called it 'restrooms' ;) ... mschf
Thanks Lonnit, yes this is one of the very first shots with the 5D with 'dynamic range' as a focus. This shot really needed to be bracketed to cope with the range.
It does show how good the 5D is at dragging some detail out of those dark areas.
I will go back eventually and take more shots around this old mansion but they charge $20 to look and I'm getting mean in my old age? Regards, Bob
Nice shot. I'd like to see you do it without the direct sun blowing out the hightlights, and a more gentle light coming in. You did manage to hold detail in that dark, upper right corner nicely. ~ Lonnit
