This was taken the first big night of the Jackson Canyon Fire. Believed started by lightning earlier that week, the fire eventually burned 11,765 acres, 8 structures (not sure if that counts a friend of mine's outhouse), and one vehicle. The fire was fought by over 520 firefighters from around the US. Little did I know that at the time I was taking these photos, my stepson was in the very area depicted in this shot with fellow volunteer firfighters. He described the fire, at that point, as being surreal with flames over 300 feet high creating an incredibly loud sound.
