Didn't see the previous version. This one looks like you are deep in thought! -Cat

I think I preferred the previous version of this. Maybe a blend of the two? But I don't know. Sometimes such blends don't work out. -- Victor

I like the lighting and composition, you look very deep in thought. --Melanie (mlynn)

I think I liked it better with the grain, but either way it's fantastic. The inky black look with this composition really has a great feel to it.

perfect, excellent job

Very dramatic! The lighting is perfect for this look.

I like this version better Mikey and you've done a great job on your first SP unlike my very 1st attempt in exhibition! I don't think I'll have the time right now to get anything in eligible before the end of th challenge either but I sure am enjoying seeing your efforts and those of the other creative people here! CJ

Never done a SP before, Mikey! WOW, great first try! Members have set the "bar" pretty high at this point, and some of us will be inspired by both their creativity and PS expertise and go on to become better at our craft. Don't put yourself down because everyone at one time did their "first" everything. I did not see your earlier version, but I think this is great and certainly gives one a neat impression of Michael Shealy! shu

Matt - Yes, and here's a 'cleaner' rendition. The previous was my feeble attempt at making this pic a bit more 'creative', ha! Now, looking at all the other entries, my 'creativity' is miniscule by comparison.
CJ - A less grainy version. What do you think?
Nico & Adam - Thanks for the comments and I hope I haven't offended your sensibilities by reducing what you complimented, the grainyness. Again, this and the previous are my feeble and inexperienced attempts at 'creativy'. I've never done a self-portrait before and I'm working (mentally) to come up with something that will keep me in the same league with the rest of the artists in this group; it won't be easy. Warm fuzzies, -mikey

Excellent Mikey. I am loving it.

Did you try with no grain and just "clean" highlights?

Matt

Quite a contrast to the lama picture! Maybe a little too grainy for my taste but I like the dark moody look - very creative. And shouldn't you be laughing when looking at the pixs on dpreview.com? :-) CJ

Mmm... not the type of photograph I am used to from your side, Michael. Moody... grainy..., dramatic..., contrasty... I like it. Well done! Regards ~jnconradie
