You Scratch My Back And ...

Black Forest, CO

Not that creative but unusual, at least. This llama (Bo) and I have spent a lot of time on the trail together. He'll drink out of a bottle, rides in the van with his head out of the window, follows me around 'begging' for a back rub; a pretty cool guy. He loves to have his back scratched so much that he goes into "automatic" and scratches mine. Kind of like a dog will get his foot going if you scratch him in the right place. He'll do it every time. I set this up and shot it UWA w/self timer, hoping for a lucky catch and got this one.

It's one of those media deals, Bob. You never hear about the good ones. The ones that s**t get all the press attention. -mikey

Well this is a first for me Mikey... always remember "be...ware the llama spits... and he was!!!" but I never met anyone who actually had one as a pet. What a great post.. regards to you and of course to Bo as well ~BOB

Thanks y'all for the comments. Bo is my buddy, for sure. He does act like a dog sometimes but he's easier to handle on the trail, never even pulls on the lead; always looking just over my shoulder. We take him into schoolrooms to do llama educationals; I drop the lead and he just stands and looks at the kids while I change his saddle, etc. Here's a pic my wife took on the way out to one of our 'llama treks':

BTW, llamas that spit at people have been mistreated by people. Bo wouldn't spit at me unless I really pi$$ed him off. Thanks again, -mikey

Nice shot. Whatever else happens in this Challenge, Bo will get my vote for "Mr. Congeniality."

Way too much fun...! Love your smile. It seems as if you are enjoying it more than the lama! :-) Regards ~jnconradie

Very funny picture Mikey - The lama, not you! It looks like this lama thinks it's a dog they way he's bonded to you. Beautiful b/g and I like the happy look on both you and Bo - makes me smile. :-) CJ

That's great. I can see how this might be very hard to set up as a self-shot photo. And I like the background, lighting, your expression, and of course, the way Bo is really getting into a nice back scratching! Well done, and a great self-portrait showing you and something you really enjoy.

I can just imagine the looks you get while driving with his head out the window. People probably do a double take, thinking it's a dog at first and then getting whiplash as they try to get a better look once it registers that its NOT a dog!

I've got a cat who will do a similar thing when you scratch her back. She gets into it and starts biting and nibbling rapidly on my arm, snorting and making all kinds of hilarious noises as I scratch her back. I have to stop because I end up laughing so hard.

This shot just can't fail but to bring a smile to my face when I look at it :) Jim H.
