Just to be clear, I wasn't suggesting you crop the picture that way. I used the crop description just to try to describe another 5 I was seeing in the picture. -- Victor

Lonnit, thanks for looking again. I did go for quite a lot of grain, so that might be what you're seeing. I'm still wondering about different monitors. On my iMac this version looks quite muted compared with the previous one. Did you reload your browser so you weren't seeing the cached version of the previous one?
Victor, thanks for the cropping suggestion, but I was going for the four plus one composition, with the lone bike languishing as an outsider (perhaps it's not cool enough to be part of the other bikes' clique:)).

I didn't see the previous version (other than the thumbnail, which looks the same). But I agree that it looks harsh. I note also that if you cropped the left bikestand off, you'd be left with another 5 (5 humps of the bikestand). -- Victor

It's still quite harsh. Perhaps it's the intense grain? ~ Lonnit

Thanks for the feedback. I was wondering about the contrast too. It looks quite a bit more contrasty on my laptop (iBook) than on my desktop (iMac G5). I've toned down the contrast a bit and replaced it. Is this an improvement? (Of course, to answer that, you'll have to remember what it looked like before.)

Very nice. I was thinking though it's harsh on the eyes and too contrasty - then I read that someone took the words right out of my fingers! LOL ~ Lonnit

Nice composition on this and I like the B/W but it looks a little harsh and contrasty on my monitor. Nice shot though Alastair! CJ

Excellent photograph, Alastair, and I concur that the composition is really good with the one bike apart from the rest. Well done. Regards ~jnconradie

Very nice, love the toning in this one.

Cheers, Vikas.

Like how one bike is parked alone. Also like the mono treatment --- aam1234
