CJ, thanks for the comments. They are both high energy, love to smile and joke. The oldest is a real story teller, like his dad.

Chris, I haven't had time to comment on images before the voting started but since you asked for interpretations of the scene, I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. Having 2 children myself, I guess I will see this through my own experience but I and many friends have found the 1st born to have a calm, quiet personality. The second born was quite a bit different and that is what I see in the little darlin' in the BG! He seems to have a more excitable, agitated nature. I would guess he cries more and sleeps less than his older brother at the same age. I don't know if there is any basis in science for birth order determining personality, but your two sure do seem different here! LOL! CJ

Phew! :) I'm thrilled to hear it. Yes, those moments definitely make one run for the camera. :) ~ Lonnit

Lonnit and Michael, thanks for the comments, I really appreciate it. Lonnit, let me assure you that my oldest son loves his baby brother, he was sitting on the armrest beside him, snuggling and feeding him just before I started shooting, it was that warmth and love and the calm, quite moment that brought my camera out.

Chris, just saw your question...didn't mean to ignore it. My reason for requesting numbers rather than titles was that I wanted us all to work at communicating visually. More importantly, I hoped as viewers that our mind could wander over these visual images and let them speak to us without hint of title. Through comments, we can give feedback and let you know that the image communicated a variety of feelings...sometimes beyond what you intended. Anywho, that was my goal.

I can't tell you what your intent is...I don't even want to try. However, I can tell you that you've communicated in this image and that I feel a variety of things when seeing it. Lonnit's interpretation never crossed my mind, but you've certainly communicated strong feelings to her. I'm not a mother, I don't share Lonnit's life experiences...but clearly you've brought emotions to the surface for her. That's a powerful thing...well done for you.

I've seen something different each time I look...some of those things are: serenity versus frustration; stages of maturity (we are not at 1 what we are at 4, or 15, or 25, or 40, or ...); the ability to communicate, which the young child can do but the infant can not yet accomplish; and more.

Oh, and congrats on the use of the light...this is all the more special because of it. -Michael

There's a sadness in him, as if his place has been taken by the new baby. Heartbreaking, actually. Makes me want to swoop him up and snuggle him, and take him home to join my family. I certainly hope I'm way off base. :***( ~ Lonnit

Michael, thanks for the comments, they are much appreciated. Yes, the light is 100% natural, it was too good to pass up. I am curious as to what you think I am trying to portray, or say in this image? There is definately an intent, which I think, by your comments you are seeing, but I would be curious to see what you think that is. Thanks so much, Chris.

There's an overall quality of softness and tranquility which I like. At the same time, the background child is anything but tranquil. I really love the compositional elements with these two subjects...very nicely put together. Is it a totally natural light portrait? I ask because I think the light is quite exceptional. -Michael
