Thank you, Cat. I'm having trouble coming up with entries for this challenge, so this may be it for me.

Michael, I know that you weren't telling me to replace the color image, but your comment did make me look at it in a different way. I compared the two of them side-by-side for a day or so before making up my mind (sort of...I always have a tough time choosing). Your comments are always appreciated, however, as you have a wonderful way of articulating what a photo and its elements say, and you raise questions that cause me to think about why I'm doing things a certain way. Thank you for taking the time to share your insights and expertise.

Mary Anne, I wasn't suggesting that you replace the image with a b&w version, please know that. However, you've done so and asked for an opinion so here goes :-)

You've removed the color which offered the dichotomy between the visual brightness and her introspective mood. Have you lost anything the image had to say? I don't think so. You didn't want to submit a happier face, you wanted the unguarded introspective moment. All that is still present in the image. However, I think your intended message (as I read it) is clearer in this b&w version. The gltter and glam are still there...but I don't stumble on the bright color. I zero right in on her face and mood.

Bottom line, I prefer this b&w version. The extraordinary mood you've captured is instantly available to me in this version. -Michael

After pondering Michael's comment, I've decided that the b & w version of this shot works better. Here's the original color version. http://www.pbase.com/image/65365827 What do you folks think?

Thank you both for your comments. I could have submitted a happier face here, but I think, despite the glitter and glam, this unguarded moment captures where she is right now...unfortunately.

A very strong piece, Mary Anne. In many ways, there's a sad tone to this introverted portrait, even with the bright color and bead sparkle. Well done. I think this is also an excellent candiate for b&w conversion, but on the other hand the dichotomy between bright color and somber expression would be lost. -Michael

She seems to be immersed in the contemplation of her life. I like the imprint of time on her face
