Olaf, Michael and Lonnit, I agree with shaving off more from the top and I have done this in the new version here.- Many thnaks for the input!
Olaf, I understand your point, but I do not have any more space from below. But, I shall try some other crops besause I feel that the current result is a bit roo tight

Definitely an improvement - color and crop! For what it is worth, one of my two crops was very close to what you have here - I had slightly less on the top and slightly more on the right. I see you took off a sliver on the left - exactly the same amount that I had taken in my similar crop!

After I wrote my last comment, I had another thought: If the originally posted version was a crop in itself, another viable way could perhaps be to add more to the left and bottom and leave the top and right edges where they were? I only say this because there is something nice about how the background fades darker towards the top and right (in the originally posted version) - it is part of what makes it Rembrandt-like...

I like the re-work on the color...still a nice amber glow, but more natural to my eye. Honestly, I was ambivalent about cropping more off the top and then I tried Lonnit's suggestion...I think it works very nicely to bring the crop to just barely above her hair. Again, it's really a lovely piece, your additional work is just making it stronger, IMHO. -Michael

I'd shave a bit more off the top - just an iota above her head. ~ Lonnit

Olaf, Lonnit, Michael and Cheryl, many thanks for comments and suggestions. I agree with too much space on the top. Here is another crop, is it better? I have desaturated a bit yellows on the face too.

Here is the original version

I too see youth in this pic. Always a serious nature to one side of youth, yet so pretty she is.

I'll echo Olaf's and Lonnit's remarks. I'll add that the eyes are nicely brilliant. Strong feeling of youth and vulnerability. -Michael

I agree that the yellow is a bit too intense, and I too wouldn't want it completely removed, and that it needs cropping. The eyes should fall on the upper thirds line. I find the sacial shadows a bit harsh - they are abrubt - I'd prefer a bit more transition to them. It's a nice expression and shows a vulnerability. ~ Lonnit

It is a beautiful model and the light is nice - akin to Rembrandt! The empty space on the right and especially on the top doesn't really work for me. I've tried different crops and found a couple that, to my eye, really brought this photo several notches up. I also tried to neutralize the warm lighting, but that took away from the atmosphere, so I turned the opacity of the neutralizing adjustment layer down and masked off the hair, as I like the hair just the way it is, but I like the skintones and background just a teeny bit more towards a neutral whitebalance.
