f/8 and 'Bee' there *

Cobourg, Ontario, Canada

I actually stopped at the roadside to photograph some thistles. I was on a severe downslope, trying to hold my balance, camera in hand and along comes the bee to add to my photo. f/8 and 'Bee' there.

Hi, Matt.

Actually, upon reviewing the exposure data, I discovered I must have spun a wheel without realizing it. It turns out that the shot was taken at f/7.1. ISO400 and a shutter speed of 1/800 sec. with the camera set on aperture priority. And no, I did not shoot in burst mode but now that I think about it, continuous drive and AI Servo might be a good way to try. LOL

Like so many other things in life, timing is everything. These things were blowing around a bit in the breeze as well and my keeper rate was below 50%. Lots went into the round file. If ya can't shoot good, ya gotta shoot lots.

Hey Harvey,

I like the sharpness! What was the shutter speed? no tripod with a 100mm and that close is no small feat. did you use the burst mode? :-)

Matt.

Thank you Mr. Techo, Kind Sir. Every once in a while, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn. I used my white cane to good advantage this time I guess.

Exquisite capture. It's perfect, the detail, color, point of focus, DOF and background bokeh.

Great macro Harvey! It took me a while to figure out your title - Duuuuh! Nice and sharp image and great colors too. :-) CJ

Thank you, Nico. Yes, the bees can be very cooperative. Sometimes too much so. At one point there were 3 bees on this thistle. I took the shot but found it too 'busy'. Yes, great summer colours. I had to move around into an awkward position to ensure the backgound would render that colour as well and then wait for the bee to move into position. Then of course, I had to wait for the wind to stop. Sheeeeesh.

Thank you also to the un-named second poster. :-)

:-) You seem to have spectacularly cooperative bees in Canada. Please feel free to send some my way: I have never once experienced a bee dropping by to enhance my flowers pictures. :-) Splendid colours... both flower and bee! Regards. ~jnconradie
