The Red Barn *

Cobourg, Ontario, Canada

After photographing the 'Lonely Tree', I moved on and came to a scene which grabbed my attention. I think it was the vivid primary colours that did it. I decided to photograph it and when I looked through the lens, I noticed that I had a split-rail fence and line of trees that gave me my leading line to the barn. All is well in Mudville.

I have to second Victor on that. The leading lines are really ineffective here. My eye jumps to the red barn immediately with no leading required. There's way too much clutter and when someone discovers that fence (and without description it may take a while) it just falls by the wayside.
Don't get me wrong. The busy landscape complements the rather "screaming" focal point very well to make a pretty compelling statement. The picture is good but on the premise of this challenge, it falls a bit short.
Cheers! Bogdan

I guess good for the picture and bad for the challenge. I don't think lines led me anywhere in this picture. -- Victor

Is that good or bad, Victor? ~Harvey

I didn't notice the fence until I read your description. I was too busy noticing the simple shapes on the building. When I look at this picture, I instantly see a rhombus, rectangle, triangle, and pentagon, all mutually intersecting. It's a startling contrast to the rest of the scene. -- Victor

Thanks, Michael. You're always so generous with your compliments. I'm now going to have to go and check to see if my hat still fits. ;) ~Harvey

That's one verrrry red barn...very cool. Leading line is there, albeit subtle, greens rich but not oversaturated, gorgeous sky. uh huh, I'm pretty sure when all those things line up that you get a Bingo. -Michael

Nice one, Harvey. I can fully relate to your comments. It seems to cry out to become part of some very striking landscape or architectural masterpiece. I wish I had such a building in my neighbourhood. Well done. ~jnconradie
