Yes, this is pretty darned good, now. The colors and saturation are...well...fabulous.

Amazing shot....I just love it.

Here I am, late in the game, reading the comments but only seeing the final(?) product. So I can't comment on anything but what I'm seeing right now.

I like the partial saturation for this. It almost makes the critter look like some ominous alien invader or a dinosaur that I don't want to run into in a dark alley. It looks dangerous :) And that's a good thing for this challenge, I think.

I also like the title. Jim H.

This has certainly evolved into quite a striking image! Nice collaborative effort. I also wish to echo Lonnit's compliment to you in terms of responding so positively to all the feedback. Regards ~jnconradie

Your ablilty to take criticism is why you're so good. Having an open mind is pretty condusive to learning. ;) ~ Lonnit

I certainly can't get away with sloppy work here can I?... but it was 4:00 in the morning so I'll use that excuse. The earlier crop had extensive edge filtering and reverse diffusion for the base but I got into some difficulty getting the texture even so I started again and just cloned/smudged the background... but I agree it isn't really good enough. I'll have another go later. I'm impressed with the discerning eyes on this challenge/forum, appreciate your patience and helpful comments. ~ Bob

Much better Bob!! I also noticed that you fixed the area where the 2 feet meet. Glad you did! -- Jeannie

Ahhhh, this crop feels better. :) Thanks for agreeing. ;) ~ Lonnit

You've improved the border, the crop, and something else that wasn't even mentioned, the sloppy edge where the front toe of the rear foot meets the other foot. But now it looks like you've changed the texture from whatever it was before to something that looks like it might be sudsy water. This may be because of the repeated rows of cloned image, but I'm not sure. I think I liked the previous version better (except the crop). -- Victor

Yep it did bother me too but I cropped it as much as I thought advisable... those feet belong to a water hen which is jet black! But I think this looks better, cropped all but a little this time? Thanks for your suggestion. ~Bob.

Love the feet and ground. The big black circle bothers me though. I'd crop it out or bring some funky detail to it. :) Very well done otherwise! ~ Lonnit

What a strange, "other-worldly" effect you've conjured up from something as "normal" as bird's feet. I like! Well done on this version of the edit. ~jnconradie

Yep, it is much improved now. -- Victor

Even though there are some telltale photoshop signs that could be cleaned up, I still like the look of this. I don't see the triangular area Victor is talking about. Maybe you already cleaned that up. Anyhow, I think the use of the select coloring really brings out the details on the "extrem*ities". -- Jeannie

Yep I have to agree, I am in my playing with filters mode at the moment.. and I did muck up the framing in the process. I tried flipping horizontally but it made the frame effect even worse. I will seriously rework this. All of the bird feet shots I took had horribly distracting texture under-foot so will put my PS thinking cap on and see if I can come up with something that works. Regards Bob

I don't think your choice of border works for this picture. The contrast between the border and the picture vanishes where the pictures is white. I don't think I like the effect you've chosen, but it is interesting. I will point out, though, that you seem to have missed a triangular shaped area between the bird's legs. This might have looked better with another choice of feathering around your selections. -- Victor
