I hate to spoil the party, but I don't see what everyone is going gaga about in this picture. To my eye, it looks like a gull was rather poorly pasted onto another picture. But maybe I'm missing something. One of the first things I notice is the dark area on the top of the gull's back and one wing. I'm sure there may be other explanations, but the look is one of the bird having been pasted.

Then I notice the lighting on the bird is inconsistent with the lighting in the rest of the scene. That seems to confirm the pasting idea.

The bottom line to me is, whether it's real or not, it looks very fake to me. -- Victor

Spectacular picture. With angle this wide the bird should have been about 2 meters from your face

There's little I can add to what's been said, so I'll just quietly applaud. -Michael

I can't add much to what's already been said about this. What a spectacular shot! I love it. Jim H.

IMHO, the really cool shots are the ones you couldn't even have imagined ever taking. This one is that cool. I'd also call it extremely singular, in that I've never seen a shot that feels like this one.

My goodness, this is superb, Melbob. I can only echo the comments already made. Deserves to be printed and framed - in huge format! ~jnconradie

Oh, just rub it in, why don't you! LOL! ;) BTW, I'm noticing the 5D handles auto white balance much better than the 10D. I did a portrait session the other day and barely had to do any balancing; just on a couple images. Of course, image quality has taken a very nice leap with it as well. I'm so happy with the 5. ~ Lonnit

OH WOW, you are too kind, this is where the 5D and the 24-70 shines. Practically no pp needed with this capture but of course I always fiddle with them. Tried to get the gull a little sharper cos it is a bit soft (motion blur) at this shutter speed but I do like the dynamic range and the detail in fore' and background. Thanks Lonnit. (Bob)

I quit! Cut the crap already, Melbob. If you're going to enter outstanding images like this it's just not fair! LOL! The worst part is that you did this with my equipemnt! LOL! I can't even use any lame tech excuse! LOL! My standard setup is the 5D with the 24-70L. Sigh... you just killed my Picture of the Year high! I'm going to have to give back the award. ~ Lonnit
