Mandala *

Nashua, NH

This mandala is the handiwork of Tibetan monks during a recent visit to the US. The monks used colored sand to create the mandala, painstakingly placed on a plastic mat using tapered tubes. The tubes have scalloping on them, making a particularly distinctive sound as the monks rub wooden sticks on them. it's an interesting cultural spectacle.

Great colors! Can you tell us approximately what size this is? I like that the roundness in this has some philosophical/theological meaning. ~Sharon

No glass to shoot through, just a rope to stand behind. -Doctah

Interesting. This is a different mandala from the one I recently saw on a program on TV. The one I saw was more orthogonally laid out, and started by the Dalai Lama. That was my first exposure to mandalas. This is the second. I guess I need to read up on it. By the way, did you have to shoot through a layer of glass? If so, I'm impressed at the clarity of the image. -- Victor
