Here is a link to Salvador Dali's Persistence of Memory. The brief comment below the picture on MoMa's site is well worth reading. http://www.moma.org/collection/browse_results.php?object_id=79018

What a beautiful image, definitely Daliesque in its execution. Well done!

The driftwood and the clock seem to be melting into each other ... a blending of the real and the surreal. Great idea! ~kt

Beautiful take on Dali, wonderfully taken and love the woman's shape in the driftwood. The colours are nice and warm adding to the whole image.

Cheers, Vikas.

Thanks, Jim, Michael and elGeorgio! I have included a link below the picture so that you can see where my inspiration came from and, perhaps, why I made some of the decisions I made about this image. ~Sharon

Beautiful composition and idea !
I like the single breasted lady, I would call the shot "Amazon" :-)
Totally surreal

Sharon, your description blows me away...I would never have guessed the melting watch is as shot. I love the overall composition and yup, the female form in the "shapely lumber" is very evident. Nicely done. -Michael

Ooops there goes my Dali idea! (LOL) Neat one, Sharon!
jimhwy11-Mar-2006 23:15
That is some shapely lumber there. And that watch goes well with it. Dali would be proud :) Jim H.

That's exactly why I thought you didn't see the body; the title gave no indication. I'll second the idea of a title that reveals it. BTW, no wonder she's lying down - that's some heckuva thorn stuck in her knee! LOL! ~ Lonnit
Canon DSLR Challenge11-Mar-2006 21:15
Maybe chose a title that brings out the feminine qualities of the image more? Lonnit - check some of the links in the challenge thread - some interesting stuff out there. Cindy

LOL! I am not familiar enough with the style to have known that - so kudos for you on the intentionality. :) As for the watch, I knew it had to be real! I've really got to do some research on this topic - it's quite interesting. I do have an idea for a shot I want to do... I'm hoping I can pull it off. ~ Lonnit

Thanks, Lee, Cindy and Lonnit! Just so you know this is not photoshopped, the watch is part of my husband's watch collection and looks just like this. I did try a tighter crop Lee but two things stopped me: Dali's painting is not a close-up and I would lost the very thing that caught Lonnit's eye. I didn't miss it at all Lonnit and I am delighted you saw it. The wood is as found except for the tiniest bit of dodging and burning to bring out the appropriate parts. Dali's paintings use vaguely body-part-shaped "things" that never quite coalesce into a complete body and I thought this went along with his theme quite well. ~Sharon
Canon DSLR Challenge11-Mar-2006 17:24
Oh, baby, you missed the boat here! LOL! Look at that wood... it's undoubtedly a woman lying back, her butt on the sand, her knees bent. Her right breast is quite prominent and of course the right arm is obvious. I "wood" have just added a head to it. LOL! ~ Lonnit

Dali-esque! Nice work Sharon! Cindy

wonderful watch! not sure a tighter crop would be more effective. Just a thought.
