No, this is not inherent in my telescope, i have taken shots of the moon that are sharp right across the field of view with no distortion. I just need more practise with longer exposure shots.

Victor, I am not sure exactly but know that there are many factors that can cause the edges of telescope photos to become blurred or unfocussed. I haven't gone to great lengths to correct any of these as i am still very new to astrophotography and am just playing at the moment.
I'll need to polar mount my telescope to prevent slight image distortion as the telescope tracks objects across the sky (and doesn't take into account my latitude), and ill have to train the drives to correct any small errors (or bumps) that may be present in the cogs that could 'nudge' the image off track for a few miliseconds and 'smudge' the images.
Then i suppose i am going to have to manually guide the photos in future to make sure the scope stays exactly on target to prevent these problems further.
Then of course when i've corrected all these problems a few more will pop up and i'll have even more work to do and more importantly more dollars to spend to correct it!!!
SLR's and lenses can be expensive but i when you start hooking them up to fancy telescopes the cost of your images goes through the roof! But it is fun and challenging and most of all rewarding when you get a better image than before so i'll continue on.
