I'm in the Jim Morrison camp here! But whether or not it's album art, it's very nice art. Tim A

Jason,
Nothing to do with Jim Morrison was intended, but I do see the what you mean. I think it is the lighting on my face and the hair, like you said. :)
And here is how I did this:
First, I set my camera up on my tripod and set the timer. In complete darkness, I pressed the button and I ran into my place against a blank wall. When the shutter opened I began to paint around with a mag-lite while keeping my upper body completely still for 20 seconds.
I took quite a few shots, but this one was the best by far. The photo already had an existing red-orange coloring, just very pale. So, in photoshop I boosted the colors. I used some channel mixer, hue/saturation, and selective color. I also selected everything but myself in the image and applied tons of gaussian blur and reduce noise. I did that because the wall is very textured and it was very apparent and not pretty where the beams of light were. then I just tweaked the contrast a bit and sharpened and voila!
:) I'm glad you all enjoy this.

Wow, very cool and very apt for the challenge. I'd love to hear how you got that flame effect, it's gorgeous. Also, there's something about this image that reminds me, just barely, of a picture of Jim Morrison from The Doors. It could be the style, or possibly the lighting and the hair, but it's definitely something. Was that intended or am I reaching?
