A wonderful portrait, shu. While I agree with Olaf's assertion that this is more midtone than low-key, it's a superb piece both in subject and execution. -Michael

Looking at the thumbnail I notice the subject's face is darker than the background. That creates a conflict as the eyes are pulled away from the subject. I came across a tongue-in-cheek tutorial, that I think you might find informative:http://super.nova.org/DPR/COIforTHOU/

Nice capture, by the way, composition and contact with the subject are both impeccable. As for the post processing, that's more a matter of personal preference.

I'd consider this mid-key. It does have limited tonality (hence the key), but the tones I would call midtones.
