So, yes, that's a manhole cover. I agree about the noise. Seems to be an artifact of ACR and low light photos in which you try to open up the shadows a bit. Yes, there is some foliage in the BG, but it's the noise that's problematic in this shot. It's almost like there's a piece of fabric over the lens. Most annoying, but I know when I push an image this much there's gonna be noise. -The Doctah

Just like with the light-painted pictures, I think the EV for this one might be higher than what is indicated -- not for the ground and background, but for the firework, because it moves during exposure.

Traveller, I think your monitor is darker than mine and therefore you may not see the noise. My comment on noise was by no means criticizing The Doctah, but rather the 20D (the noise pattern of the 10D is more random looking, which to my eye is more acceptable).

Olaf, I don't think that that is noise in the background, rather is is foliage...I think. I don't find it to be too bad regardless. Maybe the Doctah can inform us further. Best Wishes, Traveller

Interesting shot. I would try to do something about that noise in the background, though. I hate the noise pattern of the 20D! It has low noise levels, but when it shows, it looks awful.

Now this is a great picture! As a very minor criticism, did you think of cloning out the silver plate(ish) thingy toward the bottom of the image? Best Wishes, Traveller
