RK, I wanted to wait for your response before I jumped in with another comment. I felt sure the background was original due tot he reflection of the white shirt in the painting's varnish. I also felt sure the extreme treatment of the shirt was an intentional artistic choice because of the masterful lighting on the hand, face, and hair of the youth. Again, my compliments, it's an elegant photograph IMHO. -Michael

Thanks Michael and Phil.
Phil: the background is a framed picture. The artifacts you are seeing are from the painting. Regarding BH on the shirt, thats the look I was aiming for...overexposed the tshirt (white in color) and keep rest of the picture intact. The BH effect was not achieved in PS...just thru experimenting with lighting.

I'm not sure what's going on here - there are lots of jpg artifacts around the shirt - which looks very blown out. Is the background genuine or added later? Has the shirt been selected in PS and brightness adjusted to get the effect (without feathering at the edges?)
I like what the image conveys, but there are some problems which are detracting from the overall message I think.

Incredibly elegant, RK. Marvelous texture in the background and you've held all the right detail (IMHO) with the subject. Nicely done. -Michael
