I think you should take another look at this picture in comparison to Anjelas gerbora picture. Which one has more non-dominant color in it? They're practically identical, in terms of area. Maybe it's the intense saturation of the blue that's throwing you.
Ok, now I'm saying, "WOW, that's orange!". Yes, you've got the plaid in there, but it isn't enough to make us think more than, "Oh, there happens to be some plaid in there.", and then we resume thinking about that intense orange! Excellent!
