The amazing plastic child

Serial xrays of a two year old child with a badly displaced femur fracture,
showing gradual realignment of the bone over the course of 6 months.

The image on the left was taken at the time of injury, with the leg in a fiberglass cast.
The middle image was at 6 weeks and the right image at 6 months post injury.

Children rarely need surgery for these types of fractures because dramatic plastic remodeling
(straightening of the bone during the healing process) is possible in the very young.

Thanks John. I've only been interested in photography for 2 years (when I got my 10D). I am a Facial Plastic Surgeon. Are you an Orthopaedic Surgeon?

Thanks for the comments (sorry I haven't been leaving any of my own).

Grant, you're a Doc ? Man, I thought you made a living from photography.

And BTW, Sony already has a camera with a built in xray mode (F707x). See image posted here: http://www.pbase.com/johnebones/image/43436188

This is amazing. I am also a Dr. and have seen some amazing things but this still blows my mind. I like your colorization too. I've got to get one of those x-ray lenses for my camera...
