Lonnit, yes, I understood you meant it in a good way and yup, that's the definition, LOL. -Michael

I meant perfectionist in a good way. :) BTW, isn't the definitionof a perfectionist one who perhaps is a bit obsessive about getting the nit-picky details just right? LOL! And, you're totally right about putting in a bluish image - it would make the middle stick out like a sore thumb. To use it you would have had to turn this into a triptych. ~ Lonnit

Lonnit, just for the record, I totally agree with your observations regarding the lower right image. I thank you for sticking to your guns and explaining your POV, I value it. However, I also want to go on record that I am not a perfectionist...but perhaps I am a bit obsessive about getting the nit-picky details just right :-)

Interestingly, I looked back through the series of shots I took over two days in 2003 to see if there was a good replacement for the lower right hand shot. Unfortunately, I didn't find one which worked but the reason surprised me. The left and upper right have that bluish-grey cast of the brussels leaves whereas the middle and lower right have a warm cast from the sunset. I hadn't seen that before and didn't have another image with the warm cast which I think works. Fun to revisit old efforts and realize what feels right and what feels wrong when looking with "today's eyes".

Dorys and Armin, thanks also for your kind words.

Michael, just for the record, I think your presentation is gorgeous! :) I know you're a perfectionist, that's the only reason I offered any food for thought. My comments were only for the obsessive! LOL! ;) I can see what you mean about the leaf leading out of the frame though. I'm still - again, only from an incredibly nit-picky POV - a bit bothered by the lone brussel on the lower right. I think it's becaus it's a vertical image in a horizontal frame, plus it's centered. By comparison to the other images in the set, it's lagging behind because of this. The rest is stunning and I like the commercial feel the border gives. ~ Lonnit

Michael, I may be against the grain here but I do like the combination of photos and they way you have them presented. The blue/green colors on the left and upper right balance each other as does the center and lower left. The combinations of lines and curves in each give it an interesting 'feel' to me. I really like what you've done. I can imagine it took a while to get it the way you felt the best about it. Dorys

Lonnit, I would *never* tell you to shut up, LOL! David clarified that it doesn't need to be a series of three (whew, safe there!).

I live just a few miles from these brussel sprouts fields and stuggled for a long time to capture what I found so visually interesting in the farm. This was my attempt to put it all together in a single statement. For me, the middle image is an important part of the overall impression. David, your idea of a progression is an interesting one that I might pursue but harvest is almost over this year...next season.

Lonnit, I worked with a number of arrangements and went with the larger image on top of the small because the sweep of the leaf in the larger image leads the eye into the image...when it's on the bottom, it leads the eye out of the frame.

Olaf, interesting ideas and I understand your direction in visual terms. However, the left hand photo is quintessential brussel sprout in my opinion and has to stay :-) -Michael

I would crop out the leftmost image. That would also zoom in as you read left to right, top to bottom. Also I would try to achieve a perfect square in the overall image as well as in the upper right image. Finally I would experiment with having the subject in the lower right frame off-centered.

Micheal...This is cool....I wonder if there were an arrangement where you slowly zoom out from the detail to the whole operation....ie. on one side a macro shot of the Brussel Sprouts and then progress from L-> R with increasing zoom out to the operation...I dunno...

The shots themselves fit nicely together and are well taken!!!!

Cheers,
:-D

re: the middle image;

It holds the set together nicely, gives more detail about the area, size of operation etc etc..

Lovely. I'm not sure about the middle image though.... first of all, isn't it supposed to be a series of THREE?!!! LOL! ;) Secondly, it's the only distance shot - I'm not sure if it's breaking up the set b/c it's different from the other three, or if it's adding more interest b/c it's different. I also think I'd prefer the smaller picture on top of the bigger one b/c it's overweighted at the top. Man, am I picky or what? Just tell me to shut up already!!! LOL! ~ Lonnit
