Thanks, Cat.

This is a pond which is probably about four to ten feet deep in the area pictured. The pond must have frozen over at least partially and when I was there, the temperatures had gone up to about 50 degrees F (10 C) during the previous few days so things were melting back a bit.

The rough-looking areas are composed of very thin ice while the smooth areas are melted through. I belive that the objects seen in the melted areas are chunks of ice and some plant material (leaves or pieces of cattails) that have blown over the surface of the ice and been trapped when they hit the melted area. The thing I found interesting about this scene was the reflection of the sky's color and the neat patterns formed by the water and ice, especially where they meet. I've got a few others that I shot at the same time and I may post one of those in the exhibition gallery. It's not quite as minimalist, but it's interesting too. Jim H.

This is a beautiful photo. Are those rocks/pebbles in the water? -Cat
