Staring into the Bottom of an Empty Cup *

This cup is actually ex-British Airways.
In First Class you get real Royal Doulton China instead of the plastic things the rest of us get in Economy...

Canon EOS 20D ,Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM
1/250s f/3.5 at 35.0mm iso100 with Flash full exif

I enjoy discovering subtleties in this image each time I see it. I feel it's a particularly thoughtful composition of your part, Phil. I especially like the lack of saucer above the cup and the diagonal above the handle. First Class all the way. -Michael

This is a great composition / crop Phil. Very pleasing to the eye. Markjay

Good point Olaf, now updated with a proper square crop. Just carelessness on my part that it was neither one nor the other before.

Have to agree with Grant again, but have a small nit: the aspect ratio of the image is _nearly_ a square yet it isn't. I'd like to see a little more mostly on top (I guess) - just to make it a full square.

nice.

I like both of them, no real preference on my part. --Melanie (mlynn)

Well, I like it better than the straight down shot. It's more creative and more interesting to look at. It could use a tiny bit more shadow on the top of the saucer to the left of the handle. I think it would be better if it showed up a little more. My monitor is calibrated, and I can only see that part of the saucer if I look at my monitor from a weird angle. I don't think the gray triangle helps the image - my eye is drawn to it instead of to the cup. Overall, a definite improvement over the first image. bee1000

OK, in fitting with the current debate on the challenge, I've amended this.
Whether it fits better, or is a better image is another matter...

I like the white on white on white here, with the concentric circles broken only by the cup handle. Very nice. --Melanie (mlynn)

Well, I guess you were on the same wavelength as Vikas! I like this, but I'd prefer to see a shot of just a curve of the cup or saucer, rather than a perpendicular, overhead shot. I'd like to see you use the object as a starting point for a variety of compositions instead of it being the end result. There are a lot more possibilities to explore here! bee1000
