Good idea and challenging shot. It would be great if the rain would be more visible somehow, but you can not have everything, right?

Michael, I never let a potential, cheap light source go untried. And the car headlights worked so well that I might try and use them on other shots.!

Clever idea with the moody lonliness of the song. I gotta tell you that I'm blown away with your lighting technique. While I've used flashlights, I've never tried car headlamps! -Michael

For Phil.....the chorus:
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!

D'oh! I was running through the song in my head but hadn't remembered the cake reference...
There's something very appealing about this, but I wish the rain was a little clearer (that could just be the rubbish screen I have at the moment - I'll have another look later).

Gayle,

Thanks for the heads up...I'll see if I can't get a copy of the song...with that in mind...great shot!

Cindy, the lighting is car headlights on one side and a handheld flashlight on the other.

Diavid, in the song "Macarthur Park", someone left the cake out in the rain....it doesn't give a clue as to who or why, just that someone did. So I'm not giving any clues either ;-)
The song also tells us "I'll never have the recipe again" which my husband thinks is a good thing cos he says it's the most disgusting looking cake he's ever seen.

Yes Gayle - quite creative. The lighting really works - care to share info about that? Thanks, Cindy

Gayle,

This is an interesting photo in that it appeals at a level beyond just the superficial. I think the idea of the birthday(?) cake out in the rain...all alone is a provoking image. Why was it left there...who left it...? I am interested in more details to give me some hint as to why that yummy cake is in the rain... Technically the rain looks great, and so does the selective lighting on the cake...I find some confusion as to what exactly the b/g is...I am tempted to say it is a cement verandah or something? I personally would prefer to see more of the environment...perhaps hinting at some of the where it was left and why it was left... The who left it could still be a surprise....I think it'd change the mystery of why if we saw whether the party was starting or ending....or interrupted....perhaps you are calling on the ironic of "raining on your birthday"...I feel the need for a small extra hint...or something....anyways....my rambles...but all in all an interesting and fresh take on the theme! Well tken.

Cheers,
:-D
