Cindy...no apology needed but thanks...added the *. Will just have to wait for another strong SE storm to try some of the ideas posted here...just fig out how to accomplish this though...always a way to capture something if we work hard enough on it. yes this is a beautiful area and I can see this lighthouse from my house. (might add this is on the other end of the beach) This is from a pleasant day. The area is an inlet to a migratorry bird santuary. http://www.pbase.com/woody/image/227777/large.jpg;

Sorry Gary, I just noticed no "*" - so I apoligize. Sounds like it would have been a tough shoot for a tripod and maybe inappropriate for the conditions. I guess my point was - sometimes instead of fighting something technically that no matter how hard you try, the results will not be as good as they could be on another day, you can use adversity (like low light in this case) to your advantage. A blured water shot would lend a whole new mood. Still love the scene and it is well woth re-visiting if you can. You live in a gorgeous area! Cindy

ps in regards to tripod...look at image with wave, seagulls just before this lighthouse picture, I was standing slightly to the left of those waves as they crashed ashore amidst the logs.

teapot I agree but weather conditions, high waves, sand and seaweed, made it just difficult to stand where I was let alone try to use a tripod

It's a great scene but for my money it is spoiled by the amount of colour noise. I would endorse the use of a tripod and in windy conditions a good tip is to hang something heavy from it to lower it's centre of balance.

Cindy, not sure I could keep a tripod steady in the wind that was blowing, sea spray and were I was, on the edge of the ocean waves on soft sand. Yes it was dark, hence the noise. Looking through a tiny hole in a plastic bag ( to protect the camera) did not help the picture experience. All in all a tough shoot. Sea spray would be deadly on the equiptment. As it was I wear glasses and by the time I was finished I had to take them off, couldnt see through them. Great potential but difficult, this is the result. Thanks for your comments, well taken and spoken.

Gary, It looks like you were working really hard to get your shutter speed fast enough to freeze action - with ISO 1600 and and large negative EC. It must have been pretty dark there! Then you had to push it to expose it correctly and got some noise. Sounds like the ideal situation to stick that camera on a tripod, set the ISO to 100, stop it down further and go for the blurred water look. It would make a beautiful image and you could get the correct exposure and not have to push it. Just a thought . . . .

It is a beautiful scene. The lighthouse almost looks like a toy - it is so charming. Love the red colors. I can feel what it would be like to be there. Cindy
