Lee, I just read your excellent question posted in the voting booth: Why is there a red door in the field?

Man, I don't know, but it was sure a treat finding it. - Kelly

Thank you all for the kind words and glad so many of you liked the image.

I suppose that it's okay now to answer your questions. This really is a door in the middle of a field - it wasn't brought in using Photoshop! I don't know what's on the other side of the door as it was well off from the road and I didn't really want to tresspass. We past this peculiar sight while driving on our way back from Brunswick and simply had to stop and turn the vehicle around to get a second look; fortunately, I had my camera with me. The farm also had a sign quite near the entrance to the house stating "We don't rent pigs" - Kelly

LOL - It's obvious now you've pointed it out. I thought I was onto something.

Iso - Whatchu talkin bout? streaky thing? I think maybe you're looking at the birch trees in the distance - Kelly
Here's a blow up of the area:
iso320016-Sep-2005 23:34
Dear Ms Belis, I've noticed something else now. Half way up the door, just to the left of it, there are two streaky things. Almost looks like water squirts if you follow the path up, and then the water arcs downwards. Am I right?

Dear Dorys - I'm a guy. But don't feel bad, I can't tell you how many other times in the past 50 years I've gotten: Dear Ms. Bellis...

I think she photoshopped OUT the building the door belongs to. :-)

Interesting image, very surrealistic. For me it looks as if you did one of the two things:
- Photoshopped the door in
- Constructed a very basic support behind the door to keep it vertical.

Nice image. Probably the perfect challenge for it, in that you have caused so many to ask questions, which may have been answered with a title, or at least alluded to. Good job. Chris

I will answer your questions - actually fighting myself from answering them now - but will answer all of them (good eye Lonnit) later in deference to iso's concept for this challenge. Suffice it say, some of you will be surprised, while some of you won't :) - Kelly

The door does look a bit superimposed on the pic. I was going to ask how you did this but see you will fill us in later on. It's an interesting effect none the less. You have a great imagination.

Seems odd that door being there. Reminds me of Monsters, Inc. :) Very interesting image. I like it a lot. E-

I do like this, but I would have preferred the background in sharp focus as well, and maybe a telephoto, to flatten it all and make it look more like it was all on one plane - the door almost looking like it opens up directly into the mountain.

Is this a montage? The grass in the front is different. Or, is it that it's on a hill and there is a rolling dropoff behind the door? ~ Lonnit

Thank you all for the kind words.
Out of respect to iso's request, I'll fill you in on the details later ;) - Kelly

What a great find. I love that the door even has its door jamb in tact. That's fabulous.

Utterly surreal, but in a good way!

Well this one sure is interesting. Not something you see everyday. I'd like to know more about the subject in question and how you came to take it, but in the interests of this untitled challenge, that information might spoil things a bit. Might be best to wait until the end.
