I think this is better. Did you try rotating it to disorient the viewer? I'm just thinking out loud. I would hve played with this in lots of ways. I like this though.

Thanks Grant. I followed your advice but I didn't have a lot more to work with. How's this?
It was a very good day--I was one with my 300mm lens--and I have many, many other captures from this competition that I will put up in my galleries (http://www.pbase.com/j_trujillo/extreme) once I finish unpacking from my recent move. There are 7 or 8 there now and will probably have 50 once I'm finished.
And yes, it is a self-portrait...they have to increase the time on the self-timer when the 30D comes out...even 30 seconds would have helped :)

Is this a self-portrait? Great moment and you nailed it technically. The only critical comment I have is that it might be more interesting if the subject weren't dead center. Maybe cropping a bit to add a little drama?
