A very expressive piece, Chris. The composition works well for me and really focuses the hands as subject. I'm a big fan of high contrast b&w and this image really does it for me. -Michael

They are beautiful old hands.
The one thing that leaps out to me is the amount of texture in the photo. I like it....to a degree. There is *almost* too much of it, but overall it's an excellent and well thought out image.

That is true to, I think that with almost any image there are other ways that it could be shot, each affecting the feeling in a different way. Chris

It would make a different image. I think we'd be focusing more on Bear than Nana. The first time I saw this I had to work out what she was holding and I liked that little bit of mystery, and it put the ephasis squarely on the hands. For me anyway.

That is a interesting thought, about the bear not being cropped. It might really draw you in more and create a more impactful image, interesting. Thanks for the comments. Chris

I think I'd prefer it if the bear's head wasn't cropped, though that may adversely affect the overall composition.

Lovely commentary. I'm just going to sit and think for a bit and reflect on that.....................................................that's enough. Also on a longer viewing, I notice more the crop through the teds head which is a further tie to the theme. I hope others enjoy this one.

Thanks, and thanks for taking time to comment. Now that you said that about the vignetted edges, it bugs me too, I think that I will change that. I really liked the contrast of my mother's arthritic hands (age, worn) holding my son's teddy (new, youth), and the textures and the way that the light plays on both. Also a teddy is a comfort item, and these hands need comfort and love, as they have comforted and loved over the years.

What a lovely mono. So much character in all those textures and tones. Good crop. Care to share the significance of the fluffy little guy? Not keen on the vignetted edges though. They detract from the image a little. Great entry.
