Very nice idea. The sharpness of the wire against a soft background really works well. The colors work together beautifully and the light on the wire is superb. I too think a little softer bokeh would be nice, but that's a minor nit in my book. -Michael

I'd be interested in seeing some of those shot at more open apertures... I did a little Photoshop exercise where I first separated the background and the barb into two layers. I then used the clone tool to fill in some background where the barb had been in the background layer, then applied gaussian blur on that layer. I liked a radius around 7-8 pixels - it made for some nice and silky-smooth bokeh, but with the yellow dots still clearly visible. Some may call that cheating, but I just think it made a very nice image the best it could be. --Olaf.dk

I did bracket the exposure and this was the best capture. I did want to have the yellow spots and they didnt show well in other images. I agree about the bokeh. But thats the lens for you.

Yes, I agree with Grant on the bokeh and that is what spurred me to ask about the necessity of shooting this at f/16. Would the barb have gone partiallly soft if shot at, say f/8? Would the bokeh have been nicer? Nonetheless, I think this is a really nice shot as is and a good example of CREATIVE telephoto!

Andy, this is very nice. I like the colors and the composition and you nailed the focus. I disagree with Traveller though. I think the bokeh could be better but that has nothing to do with you and everything to do with the lens. Specifically, I see heptagonal rings instead of round discs. Just being nit-picky though, this is a wonderful image.

Nice! Did you really need to shoot at f/16? --Olaf.dk
