My only problem with this is that it doesn't seem to be very much of a tele-shot. Yes, I know 70mm is tele and 70 x 1.6 = 112, but I am not speaking of numbers here, but rather the "feel" of the image, which is almost like wide-angle (OK, not quite, maybe "normal" would be more correct) to me. Still, it is an amazing sunset shot!

Thank you Traveller, and Michael for you kind words --- aam1234

A truly gorgeous sunset, and I think Traveller has hit the nail on the head, it has "heart". A fine moment, in a splendid light, nicely captured. Well done. -Michael

Well, it is the way that the hand and arm is thrust upward, exultantly, that makes this..."Yes!" A good clean sunset is not as easy as people think, and this one has an emotional heart. Best Wishes, Traveller

Since Jim, and earlier Phil mentioned it. Now I remember why I put the guys in the middle of the reflection.

Was worried that if I put both the sun and its reflection on the water, the photo will be severely under-exposed. So thought of putting the swimmers in the reflection to lessen the impact of light hitting the camera. That amount of thinking took about 1/8th of a second :)

I figured that was intentional. This photo is positively exuberant. I love it.

Thank you Mikel. Appreciate your comment.

Wanted to add that the reflection being in the middle of the swimmers was intentional, so maybe I'll get some credit for this photo :)

I don't have anything to really add, but I wanted to agree with the others that this is an absolutely gorgeous photo.

Thank you Phil, Jim, and Alex for your kind words.

Phil, I guess you are right, I did get lucky. Was walking on the sea front, saw a guy preparing something for fishing and took a couple of pics of him. Then he told me to take pics of his friend. Turned, saw this and took the photo. The anonymous guy should get some (most?) credit I think. -- aam1234

Great light, this will look beautiful as a poster

This is spectacular. I really love the way the two figures are right in the highlight from the sun. You get the darkest shadow right against the brightest highlight. It's got thirds and halves :)
Guest 05-Aug-2005 08:37
Nicely composed. Proving the rule that it's not always necessary to have details on the thirds (corners, that is) nor diagnonal composition.
I can't think of an alternative composition which would have worked better.
That you have the reflection on the water between them is perfect - did you sit and wait for this, or did you get lucjky?
Phil
