The morning of 16 May 2005, the Merced River overflowed its banks into the meadows of Yosemite Valley due to high runoff from snows and a warm rain. As a gentle rain fell, I followed this pair of coyotes downstream while they hunted small prey fleeing the flooding meadow. I captured this coyote in mid-air, water streaming off his hind legs as he caught a morsel. An hour after getting this shot, Yosemite Valley was closed to visitors and evacuated as the flood waters increased and overflowed the roads. I'd made the trip for a 24 hour stay because the Dogwood were in full bloom and was treated to a flood...
