With that as the intent...I would have to say you did a great job of achieving your goal...The title may have led my brain process to think that the moth was the secret...but now I understand. The warmth is great...and the tones are good too...the DOF works well to keep the focus on the trunk!
Thanks for the comments. I liked the verticles in this image, and the texture. I wanted to create sort of a surreal or dream like feel to the overall image. I used a really shallow DOF so that only parts of the image would be in focus. To be honest the intent of the image was to explore and look for what was there, there is just so much to 'soak up', when I shot the image I did not see the moth, thus more secrets where revealed to me! I guess sense you were meant to study the image and find details, it works, but I see your point about something with more central focus also.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, I appreciate your thoughts and time.
I like the texture and detail of the trunk of the tree in this shot as well as the obvious light comming in and the accompanying shadow work on the bark. You have captured that warmth of wood which is always nice to see. It took me a while to see the subject (the moth?), hence I believe the title "secrets"... IMHO for this shot the subject needs to be "more there" or the texture of the wood/bark needs to have an extra kick (defect or P.O.I - point of interest.) since right now, there are little pieces (twigs) and the moth all trying to compete for some attention...but then again...those are all little secrets of the forrest!
