Mikel, I like the image you showed me most recently with the IR interior. Perhaps you should drop it in a comment here and see what others think? While I like this one, I think the IR is actually better. E-

As I was telling Earl, I've now shot the scne four times, from four different spots. The last three times, I was also trying to get an IR image to see how that worked with the mix. But I keep getting things a bit off, and the IR seems to be at a slightly different focal length. So after setting up my tripod and camera at roughly the same time the last three work days, I am pretty much ready to give up on it for now, and let the original stand.

Mikel, partial desaturation rarely works for me, but I think you are onto something here. The difference between interior/exterior is making a statement. I like the bold window lines and shadows. However, the shot lacks a certain power for me. I think Lee has a good idea that a different crop would simplify the elements. I tried masking out the upper portion above the bottom edge of the exit sign, which makes for a bolder graphical statement to my eye. -Michael

Nice, I like it.

Let me add another thought on the emotional sub-text here...there is life outside, inside the sterile offices we all live in....is nothing, even when there is something alive, the ficus tree, it remains a pale immitation of even its reflection. Best, Traveller

Lee,

Thanks or the feedback! I am still 'working' on my ideas for the image, and I am certainly taking your suggestions into account. I am a bit torn on the subject, though. The shadows of the plant, both inside and in the reflection, are something I am interested in maintaining.

I just thought a tighter crop would clean the image up to a more powerful graphic statement. I just found a few things distracting, like the carpet at the bottom and the light fixtures on the top left. Lee

Traveller,

There is a polygonal selection tool that let's you draw line segments around your intneded selection. Rather than do the smart thing, and use layers, I just manaully desaturated the areas I wanted in black and white, and then selected each window surface, and cranked up the saturation oof each. I have plans foor a reshoot in the next day or so.

Nah, Lee's the man, but I've got to disagree on the crop suggestion. I had no idea that this picture was yours...I like the desat a lot and that's why you can't crop further....you need the left to set off the vividness of the right side of the image.

If you don't mind, just exactly did you do this? I presume some marquee tool...then>select>invert>image>adjuments>saturation...for the right side, desat for the left.

But which PS tool allowed you to carve out that right side area? Best To You and yours, Traveller

Mikel, Not sure about the desat on the picture. But I would tend to crop it a little tighter. Just to the right of the exit sign and just to the right of the first mullion. Just a thought. theFly
