A pure classic, Michael. Now this is an image you'd want to print B•I•G ;-) --Nancy/odigi

Michael,

Portrait mode could be quite interesting! FYI, if you do get back, and do decide to try from a lower angle, try lying on your back and photograph it inverted. I think that will get you closer to the ground, and a quick 180 degree rotation will get it back where it belongs.

Clean, crisp simple image with great lines.

Love the repeating doors Michael, and of course the excellent B&W toning. Great great shot.

Cheers, Vikas.

I keep trying to find something wrong with this photo. I can't! In fact, even mono works beautifully here and puts all the emphasis on the amazing composition. In a word.....FANTASTIC!

Oh, Mikel, by all means do doors. There's only 8 or so doors in this shot which means there's several billion more out there which are fair game. While I lowered the tripod to about 2 feet off the floor, I too wonder about the perspective even lower. I also am interested to try the scene in portrait mode, which seems like a natural for doors, no? This is definitely on my list of places to return and experiment. -Michael

Damn it, I was gonna do doors! I still may, but I won't have anywhere near as neat a subject, and probably won't capture it was well.

If I were to do anything different at all in this photo, it would have been to shoot it from the ground, to see if you get more of the archways in play.

Thanks, Mark. My first thought was to crop and I tried several versions. I finally came to the conclusion that I was rather fond of the negative space. Since it was Sunday and very crowded, I need to go back when hundreds of people aren't walking the rooms. This is the officers barracks at Fort Point, a civil war era fort just beneath the Golden Gate Bridge. -Michael

interesting shot, Michael. I keep looking at your image, and cropping out the outer / closest wall with my hands, leaving only the repeating elements (the doorways) of your image. However, this IS a wide angle challenge so maybe getting closer to the wall would have created the same effect? This is a great photo opp place, where exactly is it, if you don't mind my asking?
